About the role
Bring your leadership experience to a role where you can develop people, work across mining operations and help make safer work a practical reality.
An opportunity exists for an experienced Health and Safety Superintendent to join our team based at the Roy Hill mine. Reporting to the Manager Health and Safety, you’ll lead and develop a team of Health and Safety Advisors while partnering with mine leaders to strengthen risk management and safe work practices. Your focus will be on making safety systems practical and effective, strengthening risk controls, building capability, providing assurance and helping teams learn and improve.
This is an opportunity for an experienced health and safety leader who wants to be close to the work and have an impact beyond their own team. The breadth of the operation is a key part of the opportunity. You’ll work with a range of operational stakeholders, gain visibility across different mining activities and help turn safety priorities into practical improvements in the field.
Duties
- Lead, coach and develop Health & Safety Advisors, building a team that operational stakeholders value and seek out for support
- Partner with mine management, supervisors and frontline teams to identify risks and strengthen practical controls
- Maintain a visible field presence and use what you learn to inform advice and improvement priorities
- Guide the implementation and improvement of safety systems, training and operational practices
- Plan and deliver risk-based audits, communicate findings and work with leaders to close out actions
- Support incident reporting and investigations, ensuring learnings lead to meaningful change
- Provide clear advice, insights and performance reporting to operational and Health & Safety leaders
- Build relationships across work groups and constructively challenge decisions when needed
About you
You’re an experienced health and safety leader with the credibility to engage senior operational stakeholders and the approachability to work effectively with people in the field. You’ve led safety professionals, navigated competing operational priorities and delivered improvements that work in practice.
What you’ll bring

- Extensive experience leading health and safety in mining or another complex operational environment, with a sound understanding of site-based operational risk
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and developing a health and safety team
- A track record of influencing mine leaders, supervisors and frontline teams, including the confidence to challenge constructively
- Experience improving safety management systems, risk controls and assurance activities, and turning audit and incident findings into action
- Strong knowledge of applicable legislation and codes of practice, paired with clear written and verbal communication
- Qualifications or training in auditing, incident investigation, risk management or leadership would be well regarded
